We're here to help by comparing two of the segments leading models: the 2018 Jeep Compass and the 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The Compass was fully redesigned for the 2017 model year and it's a true masterpiece so there are no major changes for the 2018 model year. The Tucson is well equipped with technology and safety features. Updates for the 2018 model year include restructuring of the trim levels. Read the rest of our comparison review to find out which of these SUVs is the right one for your lifestyle!

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

Each 2018 Jeep Compass is powered by the same engine but there are a few transmission options to choose from. Underneath the hood, you'll find a 2.4-liter Tigershark 4-cylinder engine that cranks out 175 lb-ft of torque and 180 horsepower. The Sport model pairs this engine with a six-speed manual transmission while other front-wheel-drive trim levels pair it with a six-speed automatic transmission. Any Compass models outfitted with four-wheel drive pair this engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The EPA estimates, with the manual transmission, this engine can get up to 32 miles per gallon on the highway. Compass models outfitted with either automatic transmission also gain engine start-stop technology to help reduce emissions and enhance fuel economy. This engine can also be equipped with 4WD!

2018 Hyundai Tucson Power & Handling

Hyundai offers two engine options for the 2018 model year. The first option is the standard 2.0-liter inline-4 that creates 151 pound-feet of torque and 164 horsepower. The second engine available is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 that delivers 195 pound-feet of torque and 175 horsepower. Both engines are estimated to get up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway and can be equipped with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

The Compass looks like a mini Grand Cherokee with bold lines and an athletic stance! This SUV is offered in four trim levels including an entire trim level dedicated to off-roading. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, a five-inch touchscreen interface with Uconnect, a rearview camera, keyless entry and push-button start, 16-inch wheels, a six-speaker sound system, air conditioning, and a USB ports. Moving up through the trim levels and you will gain features like a larger touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, remote start, upgraded exterior and interior trim, and so much more! The Trailhawk model comes equipped with an exclusive Selec-Terrain Management system, off-roading oriented tires, a unique front fascia, underbody protection shields, and so much more!

2018 Hyundai Tucson Features & Design

The Tucson is offered in six trim levels for the 2018 model year. Standard features include a six-speaker sound system, privacy glass, automatic headlights, a five-inch touchscreen interface, rearview camera, Bluetooth, USB port, 17-inch wheels, a height adjustable driver seat, and rear seat with 60/40 split folding. Other trim levels offer features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a larger touchscreen, premium sound system, keyless entry and ignition, larger wheels, and more. However, the Tucson is seriously lacking a trim level geared toward off-roading and really and off-roading features at all.

Conclusions

There is no doubt about it, the Jeep Compass is the clear winner here! Neither of the Tucson's two engine options can compete with the Compass' engine's horsepower output or fuel economy! Plus, the Tucson just can't compete with the Trailhawk model that is ready to hit the trail with a moments notice. Want to learn more about the 2018 Jeep Compass?
