Jeep began manufacturing the Cherokee in 1974. Originally, the Cherokee was a full-sized SUV with two doors. In 1984, Jeep began production of the second generation of the Cherokee. That second generation was the first Cherokee to be built on a unibody platform instead of the Wagoneer platform. The Cherokee has been classified as a full-size SUV, a compact SUV and is now part of the mid-size SUV class of vehicles. Built in Belvidere, Illinois, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is part of the fifth generation to roll off the assembly line.

Exterior
The seven slot grille along with LED headlights give the front of the Cherokee an impressive refined appearance. The rugged body lines are both elegant and tough. A variety of options for wheels allows drivers to match their Cherokee to the adventure they want. The Cherokee looks natural on the city streets and off the beaten path. For convenience the Cherokee offers exterior features like a capless fuel tank and a hands-free liftgate.

Interior
The interior of the 2019 Cherokee is designed to be comfortable while complementing the refined, rugged exterior. A 60/40 split rear seat design allows versatility with seating and cargo space. All or part of the back seat can be folded down to make room for extra gear. In the floor there is a hidden compartment that provides additional storage. The seats are covered with premium fabrics for maximum comfort. An available UConnect 4C NAV system features an 8.4 inch touchscreen to help drivers of the Cherokee stay connected to the outside world. With this system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity are featured along with navigation and a Sirius XM All Access package with an integrated voice command feature. The driver can personalize the available Driver Information Digital Cluster Display to show the information that is most important to them. Controls for the Driver Information Display are within easy reach on the steering wheel. The available dual-pane sunroof offers a panoramic view of the natural world. The front pane opens fully while the back pane stays stationary. For comfortable driving even in winter, the Cherokee offers optional heated, ventilated front seats and an optional heated steering wheel.

Capability
Jeep is known for being comfortable both on and off the road, and the 2019 Cherokee follows that tradition. The Cherokee offers an available Jeep Selec-Terrain Traction Management System with five selectable modes to help provide stability on a variety of terrains. Three engines are available on the Cherokee: a 2.4 liter TigerShark MultiAir2 engine, a 3.2 liter Pentastar V6 engine and a 2.0 liter Turbo engine. Any of these engines can be paired with a nine speed automatic transmission for maximum fuel efficiency and optimum performance.
