2019 Jeep Cherokee vs 2019 Chevy Equinox near Ocean City, NJ

If you've been looking for a new SUV then do we have two great options for you, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and 2019 Chevy Equinox. Both come with several trim and engine options for you to choose between. However, if that doesn't narrow down things enough for you, read along below as we dive into what makes each of these machines tick as well as what each of them has to offer.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes with three powertrain options that are available across most of its trim options. The standard engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. If that isn't quite what you're looking for there are two other options. The first is a 3.2-liter V6 that hits 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque with ease. The third option comes in the form of a 2-liter turbo with 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the standard transmission across the line is a 9-speed automatic. The Overland, Limited, and Latitude trims offer the choice of front- or all-wheel drive while the Trailhawk comes with all-wheel-drive as standard.

2019 Chevy Equinox Power & Handling

The 2019 Chevy Equinox also comes with three engine options, though with the caveat that two of them are restricted to higher trim levels. Standard for all trims, and the only option for two of them, is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that puts out 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. The two additional powertrain options available for the LT and Premier trims include a turbocharged 2-liter engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission that reaches a considerable 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, as well as a more fuel-efficient 1.6-liter diesel engine that comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission for 137 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

With five well-equipped trims to choose between, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is certain to have a model that will have the features you're looking for. The base Latitude trim comes standard with smartphone integration, six-speaker audio system, 7-inch touchscreen, USB port, rearview camera, Bluetooth, folding front and rear passenger seats, heated side mirrors, xenon automatic headlights, and 17-inch wheels. The Latitude Plus trim sees the addition of two more USB ports, push-button start, ppassive keyless entry, satellite radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-inserted upholstery, and keyless ignition. The Limited trim adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen, heated steering wheel and front seats, upgraded driver information display, leather upholstery rear parkng sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and 18-inch wheels. The Cherokee's top trim, the Overland, comes with HD radio, a navigation system, a 9-speaker audio system, sliding rear seat, ventilated front seats, upgraded leather upholstery a leather-wrapped instrument panel, driver-seat memory functions, sound-deadening windows and windshield, cornering lights, and a unique body-colored exterior trim. Lastly is the off-road-centered Trailhawk with specialized features such as tow hooks, skid plates, hill descent and ascent control, locking rear differential, suspension tuning, increased ground clearance, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, as well as its own unique upholstery and exterior trim options.

2019 Chevy Equinox Features & Design

The 2019 Chevy Equinox offers one less trim option than the Cherokee, bringing its selection to four trims. Starting things off is the base-level L trim, this front-drive-only trim offers two charge-only USB ports for the rear seat and two for the front, smartphone integration, a six-speaker audio system, 7-inch touchscreen, wi-fi hotspot, OnStar, Bluetooth, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, driver information display, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, rearview camera, LED daytime running lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The LS trim adds a bit less than expected with additional exterior colors, a spare tire, rear floor mats, a tire jack, and the option of all-wheel drive. The LT trim adds satellite radio, rear privacy glass, rear-seat release levers, an upgraded information display, and xenon headlights. Last on the Equinox's list is the Premier trim with wireless device charging, perforated leather upholstery, driver-seat memory, ambient interior lighting, chrome exterior trim, a hands-free liftgate, roof rails, auto-dimming mirrors, foglights, LED tail- and headlights, and 18-inch wheels.

Conclusions

While both vehicles bring a lot to the table, from our point of view the better choice would be the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. What made the biggest difference is how much choice you have in deciding what kind of vehicle you're driving and what that choice amounts to. From a power perspective, on top each powertrain option outdoing the similar one on the Equinox, the Cherokee offers its engines across the majority of its trims, while half of the Equinox's trims don't have a choice at all. As for features, if you're only looking at the base trims then the Equinox certainly seems to have the upperhand, but if there's anything else you're looking for you probably won't see it until you reach the top trim, effectively making the two middle trims a wast of space. So for those of you who have been trying to decide what you should be driving next, we whole heartedly recommend the 2019 Jeep Cherokee over the Chevy Equinox.
